How does geothermal work? The ground beneath your feet stores up to 47% of the sun's energy. 5-6 feet below the surface, the ground is a consistent 10-15 degrees. This allows us to use the ground as a heat source in the winter and a heat sink in the summer.
During the installation of the geothermal system, BRC Mechanical lays a series of pipng in the ground, called the loop. This loop is then filled with a mixture of water and ethanol to allow it to capture a large amount of low grade heat. This low grade heat is brought back to the heat pump and changed into a high grade useable heat through the reverse refrigeration process. This process works much the same as your refrigerator at home.
